By 2026, Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 7 is no longer a fresh headline, but its fingerprints remain all over Larian Studios' sprawling RPG. When the update first reached macOS and consoles on October 1, 2024, after debuting on PC on September 5, it did more than simply catch those platforms up. It introduced official mod support, thirteen new evil ending cinematics, a rebuilt split-screen experience, and an avalanche of combat, companion, and quality-of-life fixes. The patch was roughly 12GB depending on platform, and its arrival turned a celebrated game into something closer to a living ecosystem.

๐ ๏ธ Mod Support Finally Reaches Console and macOS
Patch 7's headline feature is official modding. Larian implemented the system in a way that echoes Bethesda's approach: the creation tools are PC-only, but a curated selection of community-made add-ons is available to console and macOS players. The mod pipeline behaves less like an open bazaar than like a carefully guarded aviary: modders may breed new birds, but Larian decides which ones are allowed to fly beyond the PC enclosure.
Cross-platform mods must be built with the game's official Toolkit and pass technical testing conducted by Larian Studios. During submission, modders can choose whether their work is released on macOS, consoles, or both. Some creations are not eligible for the curated collection, including mods that tweak shaders or rely on officially unsupported file formats. Larian also refuses mods that increase Baldur's Gate 3's nudity or violence, a decision tied to age-rating compliance.
Console and macOS players access mods through a new Mod Manager menu. The interface is split into Browse and Installed tabs. The Installed tab allows players to uninstall add-ons or temporarily disable them. Turning off or removing mods can break existing saves that depended on them, so caution is wise. The game recognizes modded saves and prompts players to synchronize required add-ons to the correct versions through a verification window. Achievements are automatically disabled when mods are used. Patch 7 also reintroduces cross-save support for macOS and consoles, making it easier to carry progress between platforms.
๐ Evil Endings, Dark Urge, and a Renamed Setting
Whether players embraced absolute power, carried out their father's will, played as an Origin character, or were simply a menace to society, Patch 7 adds 13 new cinematics that offer varying conclusions to evil playthroughs. The evil endings land like a funeral bell rung by a gleeful childโsolemn, final, and unmistakably pleased with itself.
Larian also renamed the 'Show Cinematic Nudity' option to 'Show Sexual and Violent Cinematics' and updated its description. The setting toggles explicit content plus select moments of extreme violence that may distress some players. The new evil ending cinematics are included in this setting because, as Larian puts it, they really are that evil. The setting does not affect the adventure, choices, or access to romance options, but it does block sexual content with nudity and particularly violent scenes with gore.
The Dark Urge received special attention. Larian reminded players that a certain bard can temporarily join the party as a controllable camp character if there is an empty slot. Some players apparently misread this as a new companion. Larian's response was blunt: there are no new companions, only death. Three new Narrator lines were added for Dark Urge characters, and Minthara now reacts differently if the Dark Urge has been stripped of Bhaal's influence.
โ๏ธ Honour Mode and Combat Changes
Honour Mode became crueler in several places. Malus Thorm gained a new Legendary Action called Grasping Appendage. The Bulette received a condition called Diamond Scales and a Legendary Action called Shredding Scales. A Spectator gained the Panicked Sentinel aura and Ocular Nightmare spell. Dror Ragzlin, if dropped into the spider pit, can use Arachnid Compulsion to befriend the spiders and turn them against the party. Other additions include Soul Sacrifice for Ch'r'ai Tska'an, Tu'narath's Embrace for Ch'r'ai Har'rak, and Ptarian Dogma for Ptaris.
| Enemy | New Legendary Action or Feature |
|---|---|
| Malus Thorm | Grasping Appendage |
| Bulette | Diamond Scales, Shredding Scales |
| Spectator | Panicked Sentinel, Ocular Nightmare |
| Dror Ragzlin | Arachnid Compulsion |
| Ch'r'ai Tska'an | Soul Sacrifice |
| Ch'r'ai Har'rak | Tu'narath's Embrace |
| Ptaris | Ptarian Dogma |
Combat fixes and adjustments touch every act. Balthazar should no longer stand idle and halt combat. Yurgir is encouraged to move while invisible. Thisobald Thorm's Honour Mode fight received changes to his Legendary Action explosion, debuffs, and blighted allies. The Shadowed Spirit of the Land combat was improved. Cazador can use his Legendary Action in Mist Form, and his bats and werewolves are immune to Ghastly Fumes. Gortash's turrets, Incineration Casters, and force curtains received multiple fixes. Raphael no longer cares about walking on Fire or Hellfire surfaces, and he cannot steal souls from creatures that narratively lack them. Viconia's Divine Intervention no longer targets followers of Shar, and her illusory Mapped Terror forms no longer alter character portraits. Hope gained Last Hope, a passive that grants Death Ward for free when she enters combat. Ansur's bones cutscene was reworked, and his limbs no longer display technical names.
๐๏ธ Quality-of-Life, UI, and Split Screen
The split-screen experience was revamped. When two players move their characters close together, the two halves of the screen dynamically merge. When they move apart, the screen splits again. The Reactions UI was updated so players toggle the Reactions they want and then confirm them, avoiding repeated selections of 'Do not react.' A new Equipment Options menu appears on the controller Character Sheet. The Donate panel for Gale now shows items in the Traveller's Chest and indicates which items are equipped. The action for washing with soap and sponges is now called 'Use' instead of 'Consume.'
Custom Mode games can now start with Honour Mode mechanics via the Ruleset dropdown. The kuo-toa that promised an army will support players in the final battle unless they died in Act I. The Gondians' promised help arrives as a friendly Steel Watcher, with an apology from Zanner Toobin for the delay. Hair color options remain accessible after choosing the bald hairstyle, allowing players to keep adjusting eyebrow colors. Overhead dialogues that support multiple player characters can now involve characters assigned to different players, increasing multiplayer banter. Group Hide no longer affects summons not linked to the group. Camp supply selection now takes only what is needed from stacked supplies. The Leap of Faith trial can no longer be cheesed by clicking the final platform and letting pathfinding do the work.
๐ Companions, Romance, and Camp Life
Patch 7 is generous with companion fixes. Astarion now has camp idle animations beyond reading a book. Minsc received a new idle animation, possibly involving tai chi taught by Boo. Karlach no longer brushes the shaved side of her head. Neck kisses in Shadowheart's Sharran-path scenes were polished for large body types and dragonborn characters. Dialogue options and voiced lines were dotted into edge-case flows. Wyll's romance greeting now triggers correctly for players in a stable relationship, and his low-approval greetings have fixed priorities. Companions are more sympathetic when Astarion flees from the sun. Karlach reacts to finding Dammon dead after he offered help. Minthara reacts to being knocked out in Act I and has something to say about Orin after her death. Shadowheart no longer repeats one line after being resurrected by Withers. Jaheira no longer stops following the party after spending a night outside it. Gale's last line in his ceremorphosis explanation was reinstated, and he will leave again if refused magic items. The romance scene with Wyll in Act III is now unskippable if it triggers, preventing accidental loss of the romance arc.
Long Rest bugs were addressed, including a save made during a Long Rest causing a crash or trapping players forever. The script determining whether a character is too busy to talk was reworked, preventing Minthara's Moonrise Towers dialogue from failing and avoiding knock-on effects like being unable to rest or fast travel. Performance and stability optimizations target areas with many NPCs, such as the Lower City, and reduce peak memory usage when loading levels for the first time. Loot management, including transferring everything from a camp chest, also benefits.
๐ The Patch Notes as an Archive
Reading the full Patch 7 notes is like watching a librarian reorganize a vast archive while a storm rattles the windows: every shelf is touched, and some long-lost volumes finally return. The update fixes crashes when loading Act I, mousing over characters in combat, saving at the end of Act II, leveling up, approaching the Abandoned Refuge, and entering the Lower City. It repairs blockers involving Orin's dagger, the Mould Chamber in Grymforge, the elevator in the Colony, and the Chest of the Mundane. It addresses soft-locks with Surprised summons, combat that would not end after speaking to the Emperor, and enemies in High Hall failing to leave combat when knocked out. Even small oddities are covered: goblins missing Fury of the Small, monks' Deflect Missiles, Cloudkill's edge range, Infernal Spears joining combat when dropped, and Auntie Ethel's Weird Magic Surge failing to trigger with Counterspell.
By 2026, Patch 7 stands as more than a patch. It is the moment Baldur's Gate 3's console and macOS communities gained a supported modding future, the moment evil playthroughs received proper cinematic send-offs, and the moment Larian demonstrated that a game can be repaired, expanded, and rebalanced with almost geological patience. For players returning to Faerรปn or starting anew, Patch 7 remains the foundation beneath many of the game's most ambitious adventures.
