Baldur's Gate 3 Monk Feats I Wish I'd Taken Sooner

The best Baldur's Gate 3 Monk feats, like Tavern Brawler and Alert, turn your unarmed striker into a durable, high-mobility threat.

Alright, listen. I rolled a Monk in Baldur's Gate 3 because I thought punching a mind flayer would be the funniest thing in Faerรปn. It absolutely is. But the level-up screen offered a wall of feats, and I froze like a squirrel in a spectator's gaze. After dozens of hours, a few embarrassing lava baths, and one very rude trap, I have opinions. Even in 2026, the Monk remains a movement-fueled chaos gremlin. These are the feats I keep coming back to.

Feat Why It Matters
Tough More HP means my bad decisions hurt less.
Alert No more surprise-round suffering.
Skilled Athletics and Acrobatics save me from ledges.
Mage Slayer Spellcasters get punched for casting.
Martial Adept Fancy maneuvers with bonus damage.
Lucky Rerolls are just legal cheating.
Athlete Jump farther, get up faster.
Mobile Hit-and-run without the stupid opportunity attacks.
Tavern Brawler Unarmed damage gets silly.
Dungeon Delver Traps become mildly annoying instead of fatal.

Tough

Your hit point maximum increases by two for every level you have gained. That is not flashy. But you know what is flashy? Not being dead. Monks tend to pour everything into Dexterity and Wisdom, leaving Constitution looking abandoned. Tough quietly fixes that. At later levels, those extra points turn you from a damp napkin into a reasonably sturdy towel. Frontline Monks, take note.

Alert

You gain plus five to Initiative and cannot be Surprised. The amount of times I sat there, arms crossed, watching my party get pounced before I could act? Embarrassing. Alert removes the surprise round from your life and pushes you higher in the turn order. Initiative decides who hits first, so this is basically legalized bullying.

Skilled

You gain Proficiency in three Skills of your choice. Skilled is the boring, reliable friend who always answers the phone. For Monks, Athletics and Acrobatics are excellent because they improve movement, stability, and your ability to resist being shoved. You will learn to fear shoving. You will also learn to love ledges. This feat keeps you from becoming a tragic fall statistic.

Mage Slayer

When a creature casts a spell within melee range of you, you have Advantage on Saving Throws against it, can use a reaction to immediately attack the caster, and enemies you hit have Disadvantage on Concentration Saving Throws. Translation: run at the wizard, ruin their day. Spellcasters love hiding in the back and turning my party into sheep or piles of ash. This feat gives my speedy little Monk a reason to sprint over and interrupt their nerd magic. Very satisfying.

Martial Adept

You learn two Battle Master maneuvers and gain a Superiority Die to fuel them, which regenerates after a Short or Long Rest. Monks already bounce between enemies like a caffeinated pinball. Martial Adept adds extra combat tools, such as trips or ripostes, and the superiority die adds a little damage on top. It is a nice way to add tactical spice to the classic run-punch-repeat routine.

Lucky

You gain three Luck Points, which you can use for Advantage on Attack Rolls, Ability Checks, or Saving Throws, or to force an enemy to reroll their Attack Rolls. Lucky may genuinely be one of the best feats in Baldur's Gate 3 regardless of class. It works in and out of combat. Failed a lockpick? Lucky. About to fail a persuasion check with a grumpy devil? Lucky. About to get crit? Lucky. I stopped making complex plans and started relying on cosmic favor.

Athlete

Your Strength or Dexterity increases by one, standing up from Prone uses significantly less movement, and your Jump distance increases by 50 percent. Monks live and die by movement. Athlete hands out a nice stat bump and some absurd parkour privileges. You get off the floor faster, which happens more often than I care to admit. The extra jump distance helps you reach archers on rooftops and bypass hazards entirely.

Mobile

Your movement speed increases, difficult terrain does not slow you when you Dash, and moving after a melee attack does not provoke Opportunity Attacks from your target. This is the hit-and-run special. Grease, ice, webs, and whatever messy spell a wizard threw on the floor become irrelevant. Punch someone, walk away, repeat. You become incredibly annoying in the best possible way.

Tavern Brawler

Your Strength or Constitution increases by one, and when you make an unarmed attack, use an improvised weapon, or throw something, your Strength Modifier is added twice to the damage and Attack Rolls. For an unarmed Monk, Tavern Brawler is ridiculous. It works beautifully with Way of the Open Hand. At high Strength, your fist becomes a diplomatic incident. It also makes throwing chairs and bottles surprisingly effective. I threw a chair once. Absolutely glorious.

Dungeon Delver

You have Advantage on detecting and avoiding traps, and you gain Resistance to any damage dealt by traps. Because Monks already care about Wisdom for perception and Dexterity for dodging, Dungeon Delver turns them into excellent explorers. As the party leader, you will walk face-first into danger. This feat means danger hurts less and announces itself sooner. You are the designated minesweeper. Resist the trap damage, sigh, and keep walking.

Bottom line: Monks are movement-happy chaos goblins. Pick feats that help you punch first, escape punishment, and laugh off traps. Or pick Lucky and pretend it was skill. I will not tell anyone. ๐Ÿ‘Š
